• Project Description

The main goal of VIS-SENSE is the research and development of novel visual analytics technologies for the identification and prediction of very complex patterns of abnormal behaviour in various application areas ranging from network information security and attack attribution to attack prediction and BGP hijacking.
  • Visual Analytics for Securitiy

The overarching vision of Visual Analytics is to turn the information overload into an opportunity. Information visualization changed our view of databases by providing us with interactive visual representations of very large amounts of data. The goal of Visual Analytics is to make our way of processing this data transparent for an analytic discourse.
  • The Border Gateway Protocol

The Internet is partitioned into tens of thousands of independently administrated routing domains called Autonomous Systems (ASs), where an AS corresponds to an ISP, a company, a government body, an academic institution or some other body.
  • Software Security Companies

Security software companies will benefit from the project results by incorporating into their management consoles (security information management or other) the next generation of tools that will enable the mining of large alert datasets. Symantec as a partner of the project is a representative of this user group.
  • Telecommunications Operators and ISPs

Telecommunications operators and ISPs will benefit both from the BGP and attack attribution aspects. These will enable them to better protect their infrastructure and their customers by selecting the mitigation level appropriate for a threat.
